We are over two months into New Jersey’s COVID-19 vaccination program. More than 1.3 million shots have been administered with some 300,000 people having received the two doses needed to provide maximum protection. Vast public interest has burdened the state registration system which at first targeted health care workers and long-term care residents and staff. As eligibility has expanded, the demand for vaccines has significantly outpaced the supply provided to the state by federal officials. We are joined this week by two medical experts, Dr. David Adinaro (Deputy Commissioner, Public Health Services) and Dr. Eddy Bresnitz (Medical Advisor to NJDOH) to discuss the current COVID-19 vaccines as well as New Jersey’s vaccination program.
Dr. Eddy Bresnitz, MD, NJDOH Medical Advisor, Professional Advisory Committee Chair, and public health physician with board certification in internal, pulmonary and preventive (occupational/environmental) medicine. Last week, Dr. Bresnitz was a guest on an NJ DOH podcast where he discussed vaccine safety.
Dr. David J. Adinaro, MD, M.Eng., FACEP, joined the New Jersey Department of Health as Deputy Commissioner for Public Health Services in June 2020. As the Deputy Commissioner for Public Health Services, Dr. Adinaro oversees the Divisions of Epidemiology, Environmental and Occupational Health; Family Health Services; HIV, STD and TB Services; Medicinal Marijuana; Public Health Infrastructure, Laboratories and Emergency Preparedness (PHILEP); and the Offices of Local Public Health and Women’s Health. He also chairs the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force that is coordinating the planning for this state-wide effort.
In this weekly series, we will hear from and talk with public health experts, government officials, medical personnel, front-line workers and worker representatives about the latest developments to protect workers from COVID-19.
